best wireless adapters for compatible with windows 8.1

So i need a wireless adapter for my pc ( the first one i bough twas defective :??:

) so i need another one. Im learning towards this one but not sure if its will work with windows 8.1

What is the purpose of your computer, if it is for gaming I would suggest using a powerline adapter instead of wifi as wifi has a slower response time/latency and will be very noticable in fast game play

also from what ive seen for me it dosent make much of a difference ( if ur talking about ping, with a lan cable i get around 30-36, with wifi on my laptop i get like 46-50 so not that much of a difference )...... any suggestions on the wifi adapter??

In game play, 50% more latency can be a big enough difference.

With powerline adapter you sont have to string the cable accross the hallway, you plug the adapter into the room with the router and the other one in the room with the desktop and it sends the data over your power wires

So what is the ideal ping ( and other stuff? ) for gaming, any recommendations for power line adapters?? ( around the same price as the thing i mentioned above please

The ideal ping for a game is one that is constant it can't jump around much. Lower is always better but if it constantly changes the game can not calculate timing. Because wireless unlike other network connections try to correct for errors if it detect a error it will keep try to resend the data util it gets a clean copy. This of course causes delays while it does this. Since data corruption in wireless signals is very random you get very random latencies which messes up the ability of the game to make calculations about location in the game.

Power line is going to cost you a but more. You can get adapters for about what you want to spend but those are the ones that claim 200m. You really want to go with the newer technology that claims 500m. Of course like wireless you get nowhere near 200m or 500m. There is some small difference between the brands and I will leave it to you to read all the reviews and decide. Inside they all pretty much use the same chips because there really are only a couple of manufacture of the actual chips that do the powerline function.

that rosewill thing i linked to says it has up to 450mbs 0-0 is that just a scam/gimmick or something?

You mean on wireless. It is just standard market exaggeration. It is a theoretical limit.

If you were to look at the top of the line routers that claim 802.11ac speeds of 1900 or whatever confusing number they publish. They actually only get maybe 280m download speeds.

The 450 number assumes that you can get the 150m base speed and then send 2 more overlapping signals each at 150m and some how get 450m. Like anyone really believes you can transmit intentional interfering signals and not lose ANY data. The vast majority of wireless cards get somewhere between 70-80m with some getting close to 100m. Of course if you put the router directly on top of the PC you can get a bigger number but it would be rare to get more than 100m from any 802.11n wireless card.

I have tplnk but a slightly different model and it works ok. I have not kept up on prices but a quick search shows you are not going to beat that price...amazon sells for exactly the same. Generally these devices work fairly well or they do not work at all ...due to the house... so you need to consider if the company has a return policy. Its been a while since I have seen someone complain they don't work at all but you do see this in the reviews. it is not just this brand all have the same issue some houses just do not work with powerline devices.
