44°C is a safe temperature regardless of the load, but its much more important to know how hot it gets at worst (or at least in a normal load, such as gaming).

It also depends on the processor you're running. Upper 50s is considered good under high-load for an AMD 8 core, but I have a quad core AMD that doesn't even get to the 40s under high load. The more cores, the hotter it will get. Also it depends on your cooling solution. When I had a Hyper 212+ it would get to about 47ish under high load. I have a custom water loop cooling my GPU and CPU now with a dual 120mm radiator (high fin count) and like I said, it only gets to the high 30s playing Titanfall on Insane settings.
