Power Consumption - How much does it really cost?

Hi!

I am trying to decide between the GTX 750 Ti and the R9 270. I can get the R9 270 for just $90 on eBay, and the GTX 750 Ti is about $120.

Obviously, the 270 is a lot more powerful, but it uses at least double the electricity.

So my question is- How much a year is there really in difference in power consumption? I am a light gamer, but I leave my computer on idle a lot.

Thank you!

A very small amount, the difference in price is more than enough to off set the money you would spend on electricity.

If you really want to calculate the cost you need to know how much you are spending per kilowatt hour with you electric company and then find the power consumption of the card. You will find that it really doesn't cost much to run it.

If your pinching pennies that much though you may want to rethink spending your money on computer parts all together.

Thanks! So are we talking about a difference of dimes, dollars, tens of dollars, or what?

Also, whats the best option here?:

    HD 7850: $75 ~100W card
    R9 270: $90 ~120W card
    R9 270X: $100 ~150W card
    GTX 650: $50 ~60W card
    GTX 750 Ti: $125 ~65W card

Like I said, I'm not a way serious gamer, just want to get better quality in GRID 2 at 1080p over the Intel graphics I'm using now. I do want a powerful card so I am a step ahead, but overall, for my uses, where is the money best spent, considering power consumption also?
  3. Your probably looking at dollars over the course of an entire year.
  4. Cool. I think i'll go for the R9 270 then.

Is it worth waiting for this 'Tango' GPU from AMD or the upcoming Maxwell cards or should I just jump on a $85 R9 270 on eBay?
