Hi!

I have an Iomega GDHDU2 1tb external harddrive, about 2,5 years old.
It has been working absolutely fine until today. I haven't used it for a while (maybe a month or so?) ad it's been standing on a table with it's cables on top of it.
Usually when I connect it to my computer it makes some sort of buzzing sound that gets a bit higher before silencing, and the computer opens up a window for me to choose what to do with the found device.
Now, it makes some sort of whizzing sound that lasts a few seconds, and then goes away, comes back, goes away and so on maybe 5-6 times. My computer doesn't find the harddrive, and I've tried in both mine and my boyfrieds computer. (mine is a laptop, windws 7 operative system, and he has a HP table computer, also windows 7)
The blue light is on, so it is working in some way, but it's just not detecable. Is there anything I can do? And if not, what would it cost to repair it somehow, and can my files be saved?

Thanks!
/Ellie.

Solution
Yes. Take the hard drive out (disconnect it from the circuit board) and connect it to a USB port on the computer using a SATA data cable and a SATA power cable.

There are a couple of ways you can do this.

1. Connect the drive as an internal drive to a desktop computer.
OR
2. Use an adapter like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS-xTR7Puu8

This will tell you whether the drive is good.

I watched the film, and I've actually opened the harddrive, and the crcuit board is attached to the harddrive. And I've tried to start it up while pressing the circuit board even harder to the harddrive, but still nothing. I hear the harddrive tryig to start, but It's like a dead car, if you understand?
