I am upgrading my old pc from an old 1156 motherboard and an i3 540..
I have the option of getting either the old i5 2400 that is cheap because of a sale,
or the newer i3 4150 with only 2 cores? I am also adding an r9 270 to my rig from an hd 5770
what differences will i see?

Solution

the core i3 4150 is better in single threaded operations and the inbuilt hd4400 is a great improvement over the i5s hd2000. Games that require less cores will run great on the i3, but the overall performance of the i5 2400 is better then the i3. It may be old but the two extra cores pack a punch on the i3. Gaming will be great and the r9 270 will nicely pair up with the i5(also the i3). Go for the i5 2400 or u could increase ur budget and get a 3rd gen i5...

If u have no other option , go for the i5 2400.

Will an fsp 500 watt psu be enough to power an i5 2400 and r9 270?
