I have a Hp Pavilion desktop and I just bought a Gigabyte R7 260X GDDR5-1GB 2xDVI/HDMI/DP OC Graphics Card (GV-R726XOC-1GD). I don't know where to get the cards power from. It needs a power supply and my psu does not have any cords coming out from it, so I don't know where to connect it. The card came with a connector with two ends which both have 3 pins and a hole. I was hoping if someone could tell me where to connect it or what to do.

Solution
can you post the model of your power supply? if your using the basic power supply that came with the computer then it is not going to have the 6 pin connector which sounds like what your talking about. just to check, you do have it actually pushed into the pci x slot right? the connector it came with converts from the 6 pin your power supply does not have into one it does have. you need to find a spare molex? connector the one running to your dvd drive or hdd from the power supply. find an extra one of these that's not going to anything then take the connector that came with the card and plug the one side of it into the card and the other side into the end coming from your power supply which fits it.

If you plug the adapter that came...

If you plug the adapter that came with the card into the video card first then it will make more sense. plug that in and then just to follow unplug the power connector from your dvd drive and you will notice that same connector fits into what you now have on your video card. So then find a way to have all of them plugged in at once. If needed and you have no free connectors you might need to just unplug the dvd drive and keep it that way.

What kind of power supply do you have because this card might fry your system up too because it draws more power than what some basic 300w psu will be able to handle. the single fan 750ti might better option because it uses much less power and is made specifically for these type of power supplies. Interested in what card this is, I have never seen a 260x with a separate 6 pin connector. I use to have a dual fan 260x and it got all the power from the pci x.

Before you do this can you look and see how many watts your psu is and also where it says something like.. 12v / 24A... what do you see there? the 12 should be in the middle with a 5v to the left of it. it will be in a rectangle box

look on the box your card came in and you should see power requirement is higher than 300w. what model card is this? I would be careful that seems pretty risky with a stock 300w psu you could easily mess your entire computer up. I believe that card says it requires 500w so even if they overshoot it by 100w your still off by another 100w. I believe the 12v requires 24A. Is it in your budget to be able to get a power supply?

This card is made for systems like yours.

below is from online review

"Power consumption is another area where the R7 260X and HD 7790 trailed the Nvidia GTX 650 Ti Boost. All three cards idle at very low power—62W for the two Radeon cards, and 59W for the Nvidia GTX 650 Ti Boost. In Civilization V's Late Game View test, the Radeon 7790 with 1GB of GDDR5 drew 185W, the R7 260X drew 200W thanks to its 2GB frame buffer, and the GTX 650 Ti Boost drew just 155W. If you care about keeping power consumption as low as possible, the Nvidia 650 Ti Boost is going to be the better card."

here is a good power supply for a good price. I would go at least to a 600w b/c the price really isn't different and it will last you for years so when you upgrade another card you already have a psu which can handle even higher cards. do not hook the card up that you have now. upgrading this is the best way to go, the 750ti would be close but would still be a little risky with that basic one you have now. this power supply has awesome reviews is made by good company evga and will last you for a long time. also only 39$ after rebate.

yes it is very easy, you just watch what is hooked up then unhook and put back together. best buy carries the 600w evga and this corsair 750w modular below. The modular might be better if you have the extra $ because it allows for less cables only using what you need giving better airflow and in a system like that it would help. Also if you order online buy one of those pc kits which come with a static wristband and a small tool set, best buy also carries one of those for 20$. last thing you wanna do is screw up your card touching it if your not familiar with this. Also best buy will match the price of those 2 power supplies to newegg or amazon so it will save you some time and while you are there you can check to see how much it cost for them to install. If it's not much at all it might be worth it to you. I own the psu below and it runs super cool and quiet

No if anything it will help because that older one could possibly go out one day and fry the mb. it is a good investment, these are one of the items it is better to buy a really good one because it will carry over to future computers and also you don't want a cheap one to screw up everything you have. I still have crap ram made by hyundai in my system and still run every game just fine on great settings. there are certain things that really don't affect you much just as long as you have it and this is one of the ones which will affect you if you use a bad one.

if you have the basic size computer you see at a best buy or electronics store then yes. only way it might not is if it's one of those slim towers which look significantly less wide. if you have the common standard mid size computer then yes you are good. if your still not sure post a picture, but I think the pavilion is the normal size one and the other will be called a hp pavilion slimline
