Hi I have the alienware x51. I was playing rift when all of a sudden my computer shutdown but not like where it closes all the programs shutdown. Like when something get unplugged shutdown. So nothing seemed to be unplugged but when I unplugged and replugged the cable connecting my outlet to the power supply it turned on again. Did it overheat? It just did the same thing today but when I was booting up far cry 3. This time like last time, I forgot to mention that it doesnt allow me to trun it back on until I unplug the power from my outlet and put it back in

Solution
I would think the PSU is the issue and not heat. You can monitor your temps with programs such as SpeedFan or CoreTemp or the like to ensure heat is not the issue.

Do you use a surge protector/power strip? If so, is it possible that you accidentally kicked the "on/off" switch with your foot? I've done this so many times that I now keep something over the button so I cannot kick it absentmindedly.

If not, then I'd suggest you get a program which can be used to monitor the temperature of your PC such as SpeedFan, Real Temp, or CoreTemp. This information can help other (likely more informed) members of the community troubleshoot your problem.
