I just bought a SX900 128G from Adata to use it as my system drive.
It works great, but the only downside is that it still takes a lot of time when transferring files from the SSD to my old HDD vice versa.

I am willing to spend a few hundred dollars on a bigger capacity SSD to use it as the general drive.
The question is will I be able to get rid of my HDD for good?

Since I am planning to use my old HDD on another computer, I don't want to buy another HDD.
There's no important data stored in my computer. All of large capacity files are backed up in an external.

The larger capacity drives such as Samsung 840 Evo, Kingston V300, Crucial M series, all of those brands are very reliable and now have their price/gb down less than $0.50USD/GB of storage. For ~$200USD you can find a good number of high end, reliable and very quick SSDs that will hit the 400gb-500gb range.

Any specific recommendation for SSD from a reliability point of view?

Samsungs have been very good to me, I have 5 now.

Just for reference, the 840 PRO is MLC.

Next on my list would be the Crucial M500/ M550

Thanks, I did read a lot of good things and test result from Samsung latest SSD. I understand from a common usage they do seem to be the best in terms of price/performance. I ordered Crucial MX100 because it was on sale on Newegg. However, thank you for all the info and kindness.
