I am looking for a good build (this will be my first). The budget is around $800 USD. It will be used for gaming and other general tasks but gaming will be the most resource intensive regular activity run on it. No need for overclockable parts.

Please tell me the reasons you picked the parts that you did. If you have recommendations for a monitor, keyboard or mouse please say them. I will probably get Windows 7 for the OS.

If you want to know, I am upgrading from (our one PC in the house right now):

HP Pavillion Elite e9300z PC
-Win 7 premium 64 bit
-AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor @ 2.80 GHz (Quad core)
-Memory 6GB DDR3 1066 Mhz SDRAM
- 640GB 7200 small RPM SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
-512 ATI Radeon HD 4350
-LightScribe 16X max DVD+/-R/RW

Thanks!

Thank you very much Cristi and DeadGraphics. That looks like a great list you have put together there and is likely to be my final solution, Dead. I will leave this thread open for another day or so in case anyone else has ideas, and so I can make sure the setup will work. Thanks :)

Dual channel memory, better motherboard, better PSU, changed 770 to R9 280x because it's the same performance for cheaper.
