If your pc only needs 500 watt and ur psu is 2000 watt, is that bad? or does it only produce the needed 500 watt?

power supply only output the load on them. the max lable on them is there rated output. it always better to slightly over size a power supply then have it shut down under load.

Normally you want to give 30% over the maximum amount your components should require for a PSU. Because of wear and degradation of caps over time they lose efficiency. Having to much power also causes a lot of waste. Most PSU's run their most efficient in the 30-80% power usage range.

A good PSU loses about 4-5% in worst case scenarios. But I emphasize on the word good.

Well having more power is ok. like previously stated over a year a psu may lose up to 10% efficeny(if on 24/7 as in bitcoin mining). It wont draw 2000w watts all the time if you only need 200w but having to much extra power then it wont work as efficently meaning it will produce power but waste a lot of it. if you bought a 650w and used up to 500w then your working it above 50% where most of the eletricity stay as electricity and doesnt turn into heat. By the way the highest power supply right now is a 1600w so a 2000w power supply doesnt exist LOL

This thread is a good read:

Your PSU will only supply what the load asks. Tom's user hunter315 has done some good work in debunking some PSU myths floating around.
