Hi folks,

I had a couple of these crossfired, but crossfiring these caused alot of issues, especially with black screens and power consumption,

Im considering to switch to Nvidia, but keeping my options open, any reccomendations for a good replacement that can chew up some intense games on literally max settings? EG Crysis 3, AC4 Black Flag etc?

More about : gpu upgrade 280x

Just wait a couple of months, new GTX 880s are on the way and AMD 390X is also soon to follow.

Don't invest now in what is basically a dead tech I'm half a year from now.

There are only three options. The first tier is an ok upgrade to r9 290 or gtx 780 (about 17% performance increase). The second tier is the best single gpu cards (r9 290X and 780ti) which are 22% increase for 290x and 30% for 780ti. Lastly, the extreme setup with multicard setups like AMD 295 x2, 2x 290x, and 2x 780ti.

what resolution are you playing in? Just curious for my own knowledge of the max it handled. I would think a single one would run games even in a little higher than 1080 in max settings?

Im thinking of going for the EVGA SC 780 ACX, any opinions or experience with this card?

It's great card. The EVGA SC are some the better cooled cards around. I would highly recommend it.

Compared to a R9 280X Crossfire set up, will there be a bigger increase? if not would there be much of a decrease?

It would be a performance decrease of about 30%. It difficult to expect a Single 780 to keep up with 2 7970. A single 780ti is can't beat 2 7970 CF.

Ah I see, but it should be better than a single 280X right?

Yes, it's about 14% better than 280x.
