Thinking of replacing tired gt440 with a gt740. Would this be a good trade up. Running windows 7, assus mb p86p67, 12 ddr3 ram, I3 processor, and 750 watt power supply. I do alot of gamming.
The 740 isn't a gaming card really. How much do you have to spend? Min to get for gaming I would say would be a 750ti, and that's at a min if you want to play with any decent graphics settings.

I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and you may not even notice any worthwhile difference in performance.
Gtx 660 minimum, better would be r9 270x or better, gtx 760 or better. A 750w psu doesn't meanmuch, but should in all reality be good enough to run any single mid-level card or better.

Did notice that the 750ti calls for ddr5 will my ddr3 work ok?
I think your mistaken that the 750ti says it uses dd5 does not require your system ram is ddr 5 which i have not seen in any current motherboards. how much is he 750ti you are looking at? the r9 270 blows away the 750ti its not even really a fair fight and it cost pretty much the same.
