I just bought a r9 280 and it came with power cables. Do I even need to plug these in or no. And if so where do they go on my pc. I don't see any slots

The r9 280 should require two power connectors, a six pin and an eight pin. These come from the power supply or from an adapter and plug into a a connector on the power supply. The only other cable might be a crossfire cable in which case if you don't have two gpus, dont worry about plugging that in, that would go towards the back of the gpu where you would screw in the bracket to the case

The power supply should have a regular six pin connector and then another six pin connector with two extra pins hanging from it that act as the other two pins to make it an eight pin, plug those into the gpu

Yes. You'll have a 6pin connector cable than plugs into the GPU and then the other end on the Power Supply port named "PCIE". Then an 8pin connector to plug into your GPU with the other end also going into a "PCIE" port on your Power Supply.

No. They look like the connectors that come with the graphics card. Is your Power Supply modular? Or are all the cables attached?

These are what you're after - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachments/pcie6-2-jpg.57637/

On the side of your Graphics card, you'll see this - http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/DSCF0398.jpg
Plug the 6 pin and 8 pin (which is a 6+2 pin) connectors into these sockets.

If you have a normal PSU then you're sorted. If your PSU is modular then plug the other end of the cables into a socket on your Power Supply labelled "PCIE".
