R9 290 or GTX 870?

At the $400 price point, the R9 290 is surely the best bang for the buck. However, I have heard that the GTX 870 will be released next month with better performance than the 780 Ti. Is this rumor accurate? If so, Should I buy the R9 290 or wait for the GTX 870?

Everything about the 880 and 870 are mere speculation by now, there isn't any warranty about how the GPUs will be.
But nevertheless, if you aren't in a hurry to buy a GPU I recommend you to wait, the other Nvidia GPUs may have a drop in price after the release of the new models.
