Hello, I'm trying to hook up 2 external monitors with a laptop so that makes 3 displays. I have a VGA splitter that I'm connecting 2 external monitors with and my laptop as the main display. My main goal is to use 3 displays but for some reason the 2 external monitors keeps displaying the same thing.

A splitter just splits the signal to the two monitors, making them display the same thing. Unless the laptop is designed with three monitors in mind many will only drive two at a time. Using a USB video device or docking station that supports another monitor is generally the way to go for adding more monitors to laptops.
