Samsung SSD instead of a hard drive?

Could I use a Samsung Electronics 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 512 SATA_6_0_gb Solid State Drive MZ-7PD512BW instead of a hard drive?

Yes....well until ya have more than 420 GB of data.

If that's a concern you could use an SSHD which would cost less and you'd suffer only a minor decrease in speed.

The Seagate 2 TB model is about $114

Buy a hybrid drive like Jack suggested. What I have set up is an SSD then a HDD for mass storage.

As long as your data fits within the size of the drive, correct. Aside from some maintenance functions, the OS does not care if it is SSD or HDD.

Yes, you can use an SSD exactly like a regular hard drive.
