I have a question about the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Ultra GUA880

This computer's motherboard is a GA-78LMT-S2 and I have a AMD FX(tm)-8100 Eight-Core Processor and it has a Socket AM3+ (942).

I really want a little bit more performance so i want to change the cpu. Am I able to put a AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor without changing the motherboard or psu?

I would say no. Yes, the FX-6300 is somewhat faster, but it's not like it's 30% faster or anything that makes a noticeable difference in your experience. If you feel like your computer is responding and running games comfortably enough for you, why break the system and build it again? You'll probably be spending more money than it's worth to make it a teeny bit snappier.

Personally, I've struggled with this as well. Made the dumb choice of choosing the i5-4430 (the slowest i5 at 3 GHz) instead of the i5-4670K (which could potentially run at 4+ GHz). Thought about selling the CPU, but since it's used and the slowpoke of the pack, it would probably fetch substantially less than $190 I paid for it. Let's just say I sold it for $140, losing $50. I would then have to add another $90 into the mix to get a 4670K. For the absolute amount of money I paid ($280), that's just short of the cost of an i7-4770. Might as well have gotten that in the first place then. I kept the 4430. It's fast enough anyway.

That's how I see your CPU, especially since it's a 3 year old design that's not even in the same generation as the FX-6300. Keep it and your money. It still has the advantage of having 8 cores vs 6 too. It'll come in handy when programs become way more multi-core oriented.
