Problems with transferring Windows 8.1 to my ssd

Hello,

I recently bought a SSD for my Asus ROG g750js laptop. I first tried to clone my hdd (with Windows 8.1 on it) to my ssd. It clones the drive successfully, but I couldn't log in my account (never-ending "Preparing desktop" loading screen) and had to restore a backup of Windows on my hdd. Now, I decided to create a Factory Recovery Image on a usb key using Asus Backtracker (so that I could then restore it on my ssd, I saw this trick on a forum), but it failed, saying that it couldn't access the usb key. I even tried other usb keys, but they failed too. Now I don't really know what to do as I want Windows 8 on my ssd but I want to keep the factory version of Windows with all the Asus software, but cloning fails and I can't restore the factory image. Could you, please, help me ?

PS : After a bit of searching I found that the cloning damaged my recovery partition (on Asus Backtracker it says that I need 0 Gb of space on my usb key to make a backup), does anyone know a way to recover it ? Isn't there an iso to download or even a recovery cd to buy ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the answer, but I found a solution. At first I had used Macrium Reflect, but after posting my question I remembered I had a backup of my Windows 8 before the attempt of cloning, I didn't recover the recovery partition but at least I got my version of Windows 8 back. I then using Samsung Data Migration Software included with my ssd to clone Windows to my ssd and it worked, the only problem now is that I don't have my recovery partition anymore. I'll just do a Windows Image Backup of my system in case there's any problem.

I just have another problem now. When trying to do a backup of Windows using Windows Image Backup, it doesn't let me choose my external hard drive as destination...

I just have another problem now. When trying to do a backup of Windows using Windows Image Backup, it doesn't let me choose my external hard drive as destination, only my second internal hdd. The external hdd just doesn't appear, however it appears absolutely normally in My Computer and works normally. I have way enough free space for a backup (500Gb). Do you have an idea on how to solve this ? I thought of backing up to my second internal hdd and then copying the backup manually to the external hdd, but I'm not sure if Windows would accept it when I would restore the backup.

Thank you very much for helping me.
