I have a Lenovo ideapad u430 and I just got it a few days ago.
The HDD keeps making constant clicking noises, but sometimes the sound seems to be coming closer to the touchpad than the left side of the computer, where the HDD is. This new sound sounds almost like metal because it's a higher pitched sound compared to the normal clicks.
The sound is getting quite annoying and I need this for university so I'm not sure if I should return it or not.
I've tried fixing the APM values, which don't seem to do anything.

Solution
You definitely want to get it checked by Lenovo. Let's say you don't and just live with it. A year later the drive dies. It's out of warranty and you are left buying a new one on your own. Also, buy a backup drive for your files if you have not yet and backup your files often.
