Hey guys, you've probably seen this question asked 1000 times I know I'm sorry. I have never found one though that amount to my personal use on the computer.

Currently doing games design at college and now till be moving to carry it on at UNI.

So I need to decide whether spending the £70 difference will be worth going with the I7.
I know the i5 is great for gaming and I do play games a lot but also I'll be running software's such as MAYA, MUDBOX, and god knows which other AUTODESK have to offer.

The decision is more about "Is the price difference worth it to go with the intel i7"

Cheers guys.

Yep, bang on.

OP, Autodesk software does benefit from extra threads. I previously worked for a construction business which used i7 desktops for architectural drawings and the difference was noticeable, if unspectacular. Basically, the i7s didn't stutter and freeze like the i5s did, but that was pretty infrequent.

If you have the cash than get the i7 in any situation. Programs and applications are making better use of more threads and more cores. I am not sure but I think Battlefield 3 and 4 can benefit from hyper-threading. Anyway programs such as Maya will make better use of the i7 any day of the week. I use video editing applications, mostly free ones but I do have Adobe premier pro and the export times are lower on the i7....Plus the i7 4790k is basically the best CPU on the consumer marked. i7s are always higher binned so it is a slightly better chance of getting a winner.(Silicon Lottery) i really would like to use a haswell refresh CPU. The TIM has been replaced and is better also they have slightly more transistors than last years Haswell CPUs

Stuttering and freezing are major performance issues in my book. Especially the freezing part. Better go with the i7 for what he wants to do with it..
