I plan on Overclocking my i5-4690k but before I purchase everything, What would be an Ideal cooler to purchase for an OC to about 4.0. I would be happy if I could get it to that stable. Is that OC realistic with my CPU Cooler I chose? I don't think its too high of an OC from researching a bit I found some people even reaching 5.0+. So to be on the safe side which CPU Cooler would you guys recommend without breaking the bank?
Another question would be, Would this CPU cooler be solid for even a slight OC of the CPU, say 3.8 instead or is this CPU cooler just not recommended at all?

Thanks in advance for your input

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will be fine for a 4GHz overclock - that 's a pretty conservative overclock for that chip. 5GHz, however, is extremely ambitious - and I would say unlikely, even with much much more expensive cooling

You should be able to get higher than 4.0 with the Hyper Evo 212. Possibly up to 4.5ghz. However, your case airflow is just as important. If your case has bad airflow, then the air dissipating the heat from the heatsink will be hot also.

If you want something better, try an H80 or H80i with two better fans (stock Corsair fans
are too loud). Works very well, even with a 6-core. I replaced the Corsair fans with Nanoxia
Deep Silence 120mm PWM. Or if you have the space, an H100i is even better - I bought
a whole bunch of each refurb from Scan UK, all working fine (the H80s were 45 UKP each,
the H100is were 62 UKP each). If you're not in the UK then YMMV.

Thank you guys for the input, I think I am going to stick with my plan and go with the 212EVO and OC to 4.0ghz.
I don't want to overdo it and also want to maintain the life of the CPU as long as possible.

If you want to ensure maximum CPU life, the only thing you really need to do is what's called, "stock
voltage overclocking", ie. see how high you can raise the core clock without having to add any extra
core voltage. You should be able to get to 4 or a bit more without any problems I would have thought.
Check on relevant forums (eg. overclock.net clubs) to see what people manage to achieve when doing
this. There's a fine line between being safe and being, well, boring... ;D (don't insult your CPU, let it roar!)

Ian.

I was looking around on Google to find a "stock voltage overclocking" guide and couldn't seem to find one, but if I could get 4.0ghz+ on stock Voltage that would be awesome, I just need to try and find a guide. Any ideas? I did look on overclock.net and couldn't find anything unless i overlooked something.
