I personally have a windows server 2012 standard at my home. And I have Smart TV that is DLNA enable. I have an external hard drive connected to my wireless router so i can stream home videos and etc to my TV. But I want to eliminate that external hard drive and just stream from my server. Does anyone know that if this possible? I didn't if I just create an folder and share to everyone if that would work or not.

You need to run a DLNA media server. Serviio is a pretty good one - http://serviio.org/

There are several DLNA servers which run under Windows - free, open-source, commercial. TVersity have both free and paid version, Mediatomb is what you probably have on your NAS, MediaMonkey is both a player and a server.

If you install Windows media player on your server, you will get another DLNA server (altough without transcoding).

I like Serviio so far on what is listed. I only thing I wish it had was creating users. So I could create a profile for my intermediate family.
