I just installed a 2nd HDD (Western Digital 750 GB WD Black SATA III 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive WD7500BPKX) in my 64-bit Gateway Model NV79 laptop (using Windows 7). During the initial boot the laptop added new software for the new "WD" device, as expected.

However, after completing the boot, my computer did not list the new 2nd HDD in Windows Explorer. It only lists the "C" drive and the CD drive. When I go to the Control Panel, Devices and Printers and then double click on the laptop, the new 2nd HDD does show up as the last item in list of devices and the pop-up windows states the "device is functioning properly". Any suggestions on what I need to do so my laptop can see the 2nd HDD?

Thanks, but forgot to format the 2nd HDD, my bad. Now it is formatted and all working just fine.

Solution
you need to format it, go to control panel \ admin tools \ computer management \ disk management and right click on the new drive to format it
