Online win 7 repair?

My dvd burner just took a poo and win 7 is being really goofy. Fails to shut down or restart every time. Screen goes black but the computer stays running. Is there anything I can download online that is the same thing as the win7 repair with the dvd?

Hello... Or also you have AUTOMATIC updates turned on in all your software, and it is doing just that... and you keep interrupting it with your power-ons and off, daily schedule.

Its not auto updates. The win7 screen says shutting down, then just goes black.

Hardware? It starts off fine with a fresh install then after downloading updates and being on the computer a few months, it starts doing it again. If it is hardware, any clue what it would be? This comp is only a year or 2 old. Power supply is the oldest part but I have a tester and everything reads ok.

A fresh copy of windows is all you need... Don't be tryin to fix something that isn't broken with multiple un-needed updates/downloads.

Is there anything important in the updates that needs to be installed? Security fixes for example?

Hello... Yes... but not all... decide on what security level you need FOR the WEB BROWSER you are using... are you using IE or a different Browser?
Also don't be running multible security programs at ONE TIME...
DO you need silverlight? Media player? .NET extra loaded on your computer??? I don't... Depends on you computer Work/Play!!! programs.
ALSO... don't use any DEVICE DRIVER/HARDWARE updates !!! From Windows download... use only the MFG'r of your Hardware drivers.

And please take control of Your personal computer and SHUT off all programs from auto UPDATING.... Go into Prefences and Settings to shut them off.
