Hi there

I tried OCing my system and was progressively lowering cpu voltages after short 30min prime95 test. No issues thus far.

The voltage was too low for the last setting and system failed to boot to windows. So I cleared the cmos and checked that the voltages and clock speed have returned to normal.

Problem is now I cant get passed the bios page. I get the following message:
Win cannot start because the ffg file is missing or corrupt- system32\hal.dll. please reinstall a copy of the above file.

Boot priorities have not changed.

Please can some one assist.

Win 8.1
i5 4670k
MSI Z87 G45 mobo

Solution

Shut down, if you do that with the system running, you will kill the mobo.

Try star up repair:
Insert a Windows 8 DVD, or a flash drive with the Windows 8 installation files on it, into your computer.

Tip: You can borrow someone else's Windows 8 disc or other media if you need to. You're not installing or reinstalling Windows 8, you're just accessing Advanced Startup Options - no product key or license breaking required.

Boot from the disc or boot from the USB device, whatever your situation calls for.

From the Windows Setup screen, tap or click on Next.

Tap or click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom of the window.

Welcome to the "fail" of Windows 8 and 8.1.

Where I work we lost a lot of new OS installation for the same problem, unexpected shutdown and after that the rig doesn't boot up again.

Solution: Create an image with software like Acronis.

The programs uninstall does not pick up any software/games on the other two hard drives only my ssd C: drive. This happened after reboot from win 8.1 disk when c mos was cleared.

Win did make a back up of the desk top though.
