I want to buy a Intel based Laptop with 15.6inch screen. I am confused between Core i5 and Core i7 . And also what to select between 3rd and 4th generation.
So basically, can anyone here suggest me configurations for laptop which has solid performance, heats less and battery back up is more. I don't play games. I just want it for coding, programming, application development, web browsing, business and typing work(Article writing).

i5 would be the general use moderate level CPU, i7 is more akin for higher end demanding. So for example if your " coding, programming, application development" and intend to be running 3 or 4 virtual machines environments to 'test' in at the same time as you develop, then a i7 would better serve your purposes as it is 8 cores of processing as compared to the 4-6 Core i5s.

3rd Generation is NOT supported, and most machines based on this would be 'out of warranty' or 'end of life', you wouldn't benefit but buying one. 4th Generation is the current Haswell chipset, which is made much smaller, better design processing, etc. in the same space as the old 3rd core. It is the current 'under warranty' and supported chipset, and as a long term...
