Hi i have recently decided to look at buying parts for my first gaming pc however, i have no experience in this field and am looking for help on suitable parts for a budget of £450. My friend has sent me gaming parts that can build into a computer here is the link.

My requirements are for a mid-range gaming pc that is aimed for good performance in modern games today that is also used for general uses such as browsing the internet and doing work i do not require a machine for editing. I would appreciate any advice on particular parts that will be more suitable for my needs if there is any when you look at the link.

Overall the cpu is weaker and the motherboard socket is not going to have new CPUs coming out for it so upgrading will be difficult. That said, the fx 6300 would be able to take care of your needs quite well. The Asus M5A97 R2 is a good mobo and when you get a little extra cash you can install a CPU cooler to overclock the fx 6300 for some extra perfromance if you notice the need for it. All the other parts would work with that CPU/mobo combo.

Basically this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor (£70.20 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£24.25 @ Scan.co.uk)

You are pretty close to being able to afford a i5:

Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£65.45 @ More Computers)

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£38.70 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card (£119.00 @ Amazon UK)
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£37.99 @ Aria PC)

That is assuming that you wouldn't need the price of windows included in the 450 GBP budget.

Your motherboard doesnt have a pci-e 3 port who is requiered for modern gpus

Your RAM should at least be clocked at 1600 MHz for better everyday performance.

A 1tb HDD have a better privé/capacity ratio or you van setup a raid with two 500gb hdds for performance.

Thank-you for your answer and providing me with that build, i don't think i will need a 1tb hard drive as i feel i wont be using over 500gb to store games and such, secondly is their a cheaper gaming case that can do a good enough job, i don't really want to spend over £30 on a case.

Also i forgot to mention another viewer mentioned picking up the amd fx-6300 instead of the fx-4300. I have just compared the i5 you provided with the fx-6300 and the fx-6300 has more value for money, should i just buy that instead of the i5?

Although i am incredibly tempted to go for the build you have provided it is a little too much over my budget :(. what if instead i used

CPU: AMD FX-6300
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0

is there a big notable difference for gaming or will that do just fine with the other components in your build?

You can get the cooler later if you want to overclock.

Edit: Also this mobo is another good option for overclocking the fx 6300

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Newegg)

Pretty much the only good mobos for the fx series CPU on the 970 chipset are the asus M5A97 R2 (no LE version) and the GA-970A-UD3P imo

Solution

The i5 would be a lot better... and the motherboard is kind of older.
