I am looking to build my 1st ever gaming PC. I want this to last at least 2-3 years without me buying anything else and playing most games at high-max settings. I am still questioned about which GPU I should buy. I want the GPU to have 4 GB of memory.

You don't need to overclock.
Also you don't need 4GB vram.

I hope this helps. Also, I would suggest getting a GTX 780 over the 290 or 290x just simply to power usage and the fact that Nvidia has great software that really enhances the gaming experience.
