ram for acpi x64

I had someone build this computer about 6 years ago, so it's not a main stream name brand. I currently have 4gb of ram, but I'd like to bring it up to at least 8, if not 16. I plan on upgrading my graphics card also.
I run SolidWorks 2014. When it was SolidWorks 2009, it worked fine, but SolidWorks keeps push the envelope.
Without going into the box, I'm running Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz with 4gb ram, 64 bit with Windows 7 OS. Does that help?
