Hello,
I have an issue connected with CPU core unlocking. Today I tried to unlock 2 additional cores on my AMD Phenom II X2 565 processor. I did the same some time ago on previous motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3) and it worked perfectly fine. Now, after replacement of mobo (to GA-970A-UD3P) I did the same thing (enabled CPU unlock option in BIOS), but computer freezes after like 10 minutes of usage. I tried to increase voltage of CPU a bit, but it froze after like 5 minutes. Finally I unlocked 3 cores instead of all 4 and it works now. But what may be the reason of it not working on this new motherboard?

It doesn't always work on all cores you'll have to live with three. You can try flashing the bios to the newest version but other than that you're stuck

Different motherboard chipset could definitely explain why you could get 4 cores on the old one, but only 2-3 with the newer chipset.

Unlocking cores is not supported (officially) and has always been with the disclaimer that it might work, might not, and might damage the CPU/Mobo so do at own risk.

Thank you for replies, I will try updating the BIOS just to be sure. I didn't have big expectations, but was curious if it can be connected with any lack of configuration, because the mobo was freshly installed today.

Do you think it will be a reasonable choice for PC used mostly for gaming? I heard many different opinions about usage of >4 core CPUs for that. On the other hand it can be more forward-looking alternative.
