Tri-Channel Memory issues

I have been having issues with my pc memory from day one. I thought I had motherboard issues due to memory passing memtest so I purchased a new Asus Sabertooth mother board and put the gigabyte board back in its box. Im still having issues though. When I get home from work I power up my pc to see that only 4gb of my ram is showing on boot up screen instead of 6gb. Shutdown and power back up and then I show all memory sticks. Why would a memory module not power up with a pc or not be recognized on initial start up and require a shutdown and power cycle to show up? I use Corsair Dominator DDR3 TR3X6G1600C8D at stock 8-8-8-24 settings.

pass memtest as in 1 or 2 passes or let it run multiple passes for several hours? if the first, then try the latter.

I can try multiple passes. Even if the pc shows all 3 sticks it seems that after awhile the thing occasionally locks up on me with minimal cpu and memory usage in taskmngr.

Memtest86 is a directly bootable utility; there is no OS.

If you still get random lock-ups with that, it rules out the OS, its drivers and whatever software you have floating around your system as probable causes.

Oh no lock ups using memtest. Just occasional lock ups when using the pc. I did 2 passes and the memory passed. He sugested more than 2 passes above, which I can try to see if that picks up a bad stick of memory.

Yes that is correct. Well after I removed one stick of memory to leave me with 4 gb, the next day I booted up and found I only had 2gb. I took the memory I had pulled out and swapped it with one of the other sticks. After 3 days of shutting down at night and booting after work next day I have had all my memory and the computer boots past the screen so fast that I cant see the memory check. But windows shows 4gb so I assume the one stick I have laying here on my desk was the culprit. Ugh. Ill box this stick up and hopefully corsair can replace it. Should I pack up all 3 sticks?
