I've been looking around quite a bit for a replacement for my 7+ year old 17" 1440 x 900 8ms moniter, and I'm debating investing in a 120/144 hz moniter as I do value the extra speed and smoothness very much, as well as do a fair bit of gaming. I was wondering first of all from people with experience if saving the 50/60 ish dollars is worth it and just going for a 60/75 hz moniter, or if investing early in a 120/144 hz is better so that I wouldn't have to upgrade to it in the future.

When i play games i usually dont go on full graphics settings as i dont like a lot of the blur/haziness/glow that accompanies those settings, and I also value getting every frame that I can, and i would be combining this monitor with a gtx 760 SC. I would be playing games like BF4, possible SC2, Dota 2, the occasional flight sim here and there.

I'd also like to hear input on the best monitor you think is out there for under 250/260 USD. I have been looking at the ASUS VG248QE and the BenQ XL Series XL2411Z as they are around my price point, but if anyone has any recommendations that are different, l'd love to hear them.

Thanks for the help.

You should probably wait for Gsync monitors to either come out or drop in price, as I noticed you had a mid range Nvidia card and Gsync would benefit you. It cost a fair amount extra but you might regret not having spent the extra money in the future. Although if you want it now and don't want to spend extra money the Asus is really good.

I would go with AOC G2460PQU. It's 144 hz and 1 ms response time, so they don't get much quicker than that.
