My Buffalo HD-PNTU3 External Hard Drive is protected by a password. The password exe. has crashed and won't let me enter the password. The computer sees the drive is hooked up but does not show the data content.
I downloaded the I-Care Recovery Software but the software doesn't see the drive either.

How can I open the Hard Drive and recover my data?

thanks,
Pjae Stanley

Thank you for responding.

One of two things happens:
1. Either I click on the drive the USB shows up on, it opens to the password exe. file. I then click on the exe. file. The computer asks if I want to run the file as administrator. I click yes, then nothing happens. It takes me back to where I can click on the exec. file.

2. Or I do all of the above but instead of nothing happening I get a windows message that says "Program has stopped working, do you want to check online or on your computer for a solution.

That's all I get. I've tried using my laptop, my husband's lap top, and his desk top PC. All of our laptops are PC's.

thank you

Hi trekzone. I tried to download the drive navigator but the support portal didn't recognize my serial number and so would not allow me to download the drive. I have put in a support request to buffalo. will keep updating this post. thanks for your help and thoughts on this.

Currently, the help desk at Buffalo is suggesting the same thing as trekzone. I've asked them for help with recognizing my serial number or sending me a direct link. I have heard from them and apparently I was talking with buffalo EU. I was sent a link to buffalo asia, as I am currently in Thailand. Link: http://buffalo.jp/support_ap/support/products/hd_pntu3.html.
I have downloaded the drive navigator and will post the results immediately thereafter. Thank you everyone for your help.

To All,
Trekzone, your answer resolved the problem. I found the correct site for Buffalo Asia, found the drive navi, downloaded it, and it worked perfectly. Now I'm going to move all my files to another back up drive. One glitch with the downloaded drive navi: even though I was asked what language I speak (English), the drive navi downloaded in Thai. I made my best guest as to which buttons to push (the ones that were highlighted) and it worked. Thanks again.

It sounds like Drive Navi did it all. Including recognizing the files that were on the drive. is that correct? I my have formatted my HD to be Mac Extended but I'm hoping I can plug into a PC and run the software to see the files and transfer them to another drive. Ever since the port of the Buffalo HD broke onto the usb cable, PCs or Mac's want to reformat the drive - thinking it is empty.
