so let me explain the issue i am having, i got this HDD from a family member, and dusted it off, because it had been sitting in their old computer never being used, so i tossed it in my gaming rig for possibly a OS drive, everything checks out great except for the temps, i am not sure why smart failed because of a 54c (that i dont see anywhere) reading when it is reading around 40c and lower, i have software to check drives for any issues, and its reading that the smart failed because of a temp that isn't even close to 54c, so is there anyway to fix that? or is this drive just bad?from prior experience i know that drives that run hot constantly over what its limit is are no good, but i dont see anywhere looking at the charts where it hit 54c, so im thinking maybe smart is lying to me :??: any input would be very much appreciated, thanks!

okay, well apparently when i launched WD's tool it says it passed, but ima test it really quick, sadly the values changed from what i was looking at on HD tune, so im not too sure of WD's tool because some values are now 0, but as i said im going to run a test and see what happens

HD tune says it has no bad sectors, BUTTT obviously the temp reading was off, and i have no smart issues on a short test, so why not check the sectors again with the program that said hd tune was wrong, but i wonder if the fact that i formatted it after HD tune did the auto smart test when i opened it had anything to do with that changing? i dont believe it would have anything to do with that.

well like i said, i had no problem with sectors from what i saw before the format, just the temperature said it failed because it was too high according to the data on HD tune. so when i was half way into the test (using WD's tool), of course the power went out >.> so now i have to re do it
