Im currently teaching myself how to overclock as Im just getting into it and Im using an extra PC I have. The MB is a SOYO P41845PE-LITE and it is running the P4 1.8 GHZ processor with the 478 Socket, Intel 845PE AGP/PCI, 400/533 MHz Front Side Bus supported,ATX Form Factor. Well this is what I was thinking, however stupid it may be... I also have another system with an ASUS P4S800D-X board thats got a P4 2.4GHZ processor in it with the same 478 socket type (not full system just board and CPU) and I tried to put it in my SOYO board and when I hit the power button the CPU fan spins for a second and thats it it wont stay running.(if anyone has any ideas on this feel free to post) So my question is this" Can I overclock my 1.8GHZ CPU to the point of 2.4GHZ and then switch to the 2.4ghz processor

The SOYO board does not support anything higher then 533 front side bus.
If your p4 2.4ghz processor is 800 mhz front side bus it will not work in that motherboard.
Judging by the fact that when you tried puting the 2.4ghz processor in the Soyo board and it would not POST I'm betting it is not compatible.

well youll notice if you follow this link http://ark.intel.com/products/27438/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-2_40-GHz-512K-Cache-533-MHz-FSB that the P4 2.4GHZ is 533mhz FSB so im still not sure why it wasnt turning on
