No power to new build except ethernet light comes on

Hey guys, having some problems with a new build. I'm helping my roommate with his first build. I built mine and it works with no issues, but that one is my first as well, so I'm definitely still a novice here. Not sure if I've got this in the proper category, but figured it was a good start.

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 mobo
I5 4690k cpu
EVGA Geforce 760 gpu
Corsair AX750 psu
8GB Hyperx Fury ram, ddr3

First go of it, the pc received no power except to a single blinking led on the mobo. It wasn't the debug leds, the manual listed it as simply "msi led". I stripped it down to bare just mobo, cpu and ram, same result. External build, same result. Took out the cmos battery and put it back, same result. Swapped in a known-working psu, same result. We decided it was either a faulty cpu or a faulty mobo, and so we exchanged both.

This time, I started with the external build. Just mobo, cpu, and ram. The cpu fan clicked like it wanted to start, but immediately stopped. I have no leds whatsoever blinking on the mobo, no beeps either. Every subsequent attempt has yielded nothing, the cpu fan no longer tries to start. I again tried a known-working psu. The only indication of power this time is the ethernet port light does come on, and stays on as long as the psu is turned on. I must confess I didn't think to check that with the first mobo, so I don't know if it was coming on with that one or not.

I feel like I must have fried it somehow, but I'm fairly confident that I was careful not to. I know it's certainly possible to receive two faulty parts in a row, but that seems highly unlikely. Can this board be saved, or did I fry it after all? Or something else entirely?

Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.
