I have windows 8.1 64-bit system, but there is a program that I cannot open. When I double click on it, it just does not open at all. In the folder there are a few .exe's and none of them work from this particular software. All other programs work on my computer, but this one does not. I have tried everything that I can think of, I opened as admin, compatibility as Xp, Windows 7, etc. I did an "sfc /scannow" in cmd, my .NET is up-to-date and I uninstalled and reinstalled the program in question. (On the website, it)The owner of the program says it works on many other machines, XP, Vista, 7 and 8 - 32 and 64-bit systems, so it is not a new or untested program. It is a program for searching for stocks and options, nothing popular. What else can I try, or can I do to make it work or even find an error to trouble shoot it? I will try to start it in safe mode next, see if that works. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated
thanks

Chances are you're going to need to contact the software creator to sort it out if it's not a mainstream application. Did it run on a previous Windows platform or is this the first time you've tried to use the application? Could it be that there is something else required for it to run. Check the information and read me documents in the program folder.

I did contact him, he said many users are using it. To try reinstalling it. The only thing on the site about troubles is about upgrading the .NET, but mine is up to date. I read the readme.txt, but its nothing really, just min requirements, which is nothing major and I meet, I will look in the program folder for some more texts. I am hoping there is a few more things I can try to get it working. I was going to try Hyper-V but I do not have Pro or Enterprise version of Windows 8, so I can't. Or even a program I can install that will help me at least get an error to look into. weird problem, never had it before. I will keep looking.

Well, without knowing what the program is in order to try and look into it, there's not much I can do to help. I do hope you get it figured out. Maybe try downloading the installer again. It's rare, but just occasionally I'll download something that for some reason doesn't have all the pieces and re-downloading does the trick. Another couple of quick things, although you've probably already got this covered, is that sometimes installing from inside a compressed folder like a .zip or .rar won't work and you need to extract the files first. I've also seen some quirky programs that wouldn't allow you to install them if the files were located on an external or slave drive and had to be located on the target drive to install. Just a shot in the dark.

Ok, the program installed without problems on my system so it's definitely ok for Windows 8.1 and it's not an installer issue. So now what you're going to need to do is get with somebody who can decompile the code, not an easy task, if you want to find out what's going on or maybe try turning off your antivirus, antimalware and such and try installing it then. Maybe one of those is blocking it for some reason. Good luck on this and I'll dig a little more to see if I can find any reason for it. Or, you might want to do a system refresh, which won't uninstall your programs, and see if it will install then.
