Does my onboard provide 7.1 surround?

Alright so I just bought a pair of Logitech g230s which are the g430s without the usb attachment that turns them into surround headphones. I was wondering, just plugging them into my motherboard (The Asus m5a99fx Pro 2.0) will actually provide surround through these headphones? I have it on the surround setting but since I've never owned a surround headset I'm not sure if it's functioning properly

Solution
When i said application i meant the game or whatever media player you are using. Some of them have their implementation, so surround sometimes doesnt work as it should. Nothing to worry about there.
The simplest thing I can say is: check the connector. If this headset has only 1x3.5mm connector, this is stereo, no way you can output more than 2 channels from your computer to the headset. The only way you can get "surround" is by software emulation in drivers or by using emulating hardware embedded in the headset. This effect can sometimes be quite good, though, but this is not *true* surround (i.e. multiple channels). Surround in headphones is also somewhat strange concept, since you are only using two headphone drivers (speakers) anyway; there are headphones with multiple drivers with each driver having their own channel. Frankly, all these concepts are similar in my opinion, and none of them is able to provide true surround you get by encircling yourself with multiple speakers, but they do manage to achieve quite remerkable results sometimes. Depends on the application you use as well.

Yes it uses the standard 3.5mm jacks. Any recommendation for a program to use?
