I am looking at getting the HP Chromebook 14 4gb and i am wondering just how well chromebooks can run ubuntu. Some things i am looking at will it be able to handle low end linux games? Also would this be a smart idea to put ubuntu onto a Chromebook?

I say go for it, and if it's too slow, install LXDE.

I got Acer C710 Chromebook dirty cheap (refurb for $130), and used this guide to install Ubuntu. It is working almost flawless, and I got very ultra-book-looking Linux laptop for less than $200 (I have since upped the memory to 4gb, and swapped 16gb SSD for 120gb SSD).

After looking at it and seeing how expandable it is i still cant see myself using it. The c710 didn't have expandable memory(SD card) which i may need. Also by the time i get 4gb ram and a 128gb ssd it will be around the same price as the HP 14 chromebook. Lastly the 14 is 14" which i love.

You got me wrong. I am not saying "Go with C710", I have just shared my experience. C710 is what does the job for me (SD card, HDMI, WiFi/Bluetooth, lightwight, cheap, expandable/hackable).

If HP14 is your cup of tea - go with it. But it is with same specs (2gb RAM, 16 SSD), so the bigger screen is the only plus for HP.
