try that software because it will show you 100% whats going on as far as fan speeds and processor heat / usage %

You said recently bought a hdmi cable.. so before this were u using hdmi and then you replaced with a new cable or were you using dvi or something and then you switched to the hdmi with a new cable?

your cable is good.. I haven't used a vga cable since before HD was around. Is it possible maybe that the cable you used before wasn't really displaying in 1080p? then when you hooked the hdmi up you got the video as it should be which pushed the card more and if you have the AA maxed with full ultra settings with that card you probably wont get a lot of fps. when i turn the AA maxed out on my 270x with hdmi the frames drop significantly to around what your talking about. if i put it on x2 then it goes back up to 40=50+. when you have watch dogs on are the settings right now at the absolute highest with everything maxed including the AA? if so try to turn it to like x2 and keep everything else maxed and if your fps go back up a bit then you know what it is.

vgs cable was good i still have it but lost adapter so i bought hdmi
i even played assasin creed 4 on my lg 45 inch with vga cable on high settings 1080p ,gave 35 to 40 fps.
i even tried it to play on 800x600 resolution
but game starts with 35 fps then drops to 15 fps
even on low or ultra or high or med setting games starts smoothly with 35 to 45 fps then suddenly drops to 15 to 18 fps
i tried turning off AA but games starts smoothy then drops badly

you've basically upped the quality that is being displayed and therefore increased what the GPU has to do

vga is analog, hdmi is digital

the 660 is a fairly good card, but watchdogs on ultra is a struggle for that gpu

I've got two of them in sli overclocked and they do pretty well, but not on full ultra for most recent releases

However, if what you say is correct, ie. no matter what setting you apply (low/med/high), or resolution, performance starts well and then drops, then the hdmi cable might not be the problem. Might just be coincidence and something else is going on.

When it drops to 15fps, does it stay like that or does it bounce back up and down to good/bad frames?

no it stays like that , then i press alt tab to go to desktop then i again press alt tab to go BACK to game
then it runs smoothly then suddenly drops to 15 to 19fps again n stays on like that
i even RMA MY GPU RECENTLY
I PLAYED WATCH DOGS ON HIGH SPEC ON 1080P RES WITH 45FPS
THIS IS THE CASE WITH GRID AUTOSPORT TOO

If you haven't figured it out buy another adapter from best buy or something and then hook it up how you had to so that you can narrow it down further just in case it is actually a random coincidence. If it doesn't work right you can always return the adapter even after you opened it. Also try running some less intense games just to see if you get even performance during them or not. Not really sure what it is being that the frames drop like that even with everything turned down, but if you narrow it down it will become easier to figure out by someone.

Also are you running some kind of monitoring software? If your not try afterburner from msi so then you can run a game for 5 minutes and go back to see what lvls everything was at during the entire time. not talking about something like fraps that tracks frames, but something where you are tracking literally everything like cpu and gpu temp and usage %. i'm really not sure, but maybe it's getting really hot and slowing down as a default safety measure. if it starts normal then if a fan isn't kicking on the right speeds it would get super hot really fast and then it makes sense when you alt tab the gpu cools really quick with no use, you alt tab again fps go up cause it's cool then back down when it's hot. If i'm playing around 60c and alt-tab it goes down to about 45c within seconds. Not even sure if this is possible, but the tracking software will rule this out or show any other funny signs.

one of the fan of my gpu was not working so i sent it to RMA process
when it returned it was carelessly packed
when i play games i can hear the fan through my earphone , i thought it was nothing until you mention it
i think its something to do with the RMA process , they did something wrong with it
having this issue since the gpu returned and i started using hdmi with it since it returned
ill try to get replacement

the temps should not get that high, that is way too high. you gotta get them to fix it.
