I'm running a GTX 295 from 2009, and I'm considering an upgrade.

What I was wondering is whether upgrading from a high-end card like the GTX 295 to a budget card like the GTX 750 Ti would actually give me increased performance, since the 295 has a lot more transistors, higher memory bandwidth etc.
There are no comparisons between cards this old and new ones, so I haven't really been able to tell :-)

The 750ti is much better and it has Nvidia's new technology, lesser power consumption and you can overclocking in the future helps in performance gain too.. GTX 295 is really out-dated now..

What do you base this on though? Sure it is outdated, but it still runs pretty much anything in medium graphics at acceptable frame-rates :-)

The 750ti will provide better frame-rates in newer games and bechmark results are always better in 750 ti on newer games..

The gtx 750Ti would play games on medium with acceptable frame rates (30fps+). If you have a decent power supply, a relatively similar priced but better gpu would be the r9 270, if you're open to AMD options.

Hmm GTX 750Ti is a nice card but wont do much better perfomance wise then your 295, but if you are not on a tight budget the GTX 760 will net you an actual upgrade you can feel imo.

Seems like the gtx 750ti has about 3 times better Passmark G3D Mark. It's a good reference of how much more powerful the card is compared to the old one.

Yeah, I'm also considering waiting for the 860 to land, since I'm not so much in a hurry :-) but I don't think the budget 800 cards will be Maxwell chips, unfortunately.

I'm kind of a nVIDIA fanboy since I do some CUDA development at work, but I'll definitely look into my options there as well.
