My friend gave me his 24" Monitor because he was upgrading, I came home and tried to plug in my HDMI cable into the back (I have heard that a TV has poor judgement on HDMI and that a dedicated monitor is better) but the resoultion was WAY OFF and the picture actually began to hurt my eyes.

The weird thing is that when I go into Screen Resolution the native suggested is 1280x720 even though the TV is HD 1080p - I have tried using CCC to configure it and I managed to force a resolution that fitted the screen perfectly but the picture was awful; it was blurry and was painful to look at as it was 980i at 30hz and CCC's LCD compatbile presets weren't of any use (1920x1080p @ 60hz was just distorted and terrible).

Can anyone help me? The monitor worked fine for my friend, also using HDMI.:(

Thanks in advance.:)

1280x1080 isn't 1080p. 1920x1080 is. Are you sure the TV is full 1080p? I haven't seen too many 22" TV's are 1080p. Most 32" TV's aren't even 1080p, they are 1080i at the most. What is the model of the TV?
