I own a HP Pavilion m9480be http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01591067&cc=be&dlc=nl&lc=nl&jumpid=reg_r1002_benl_c-001_title_r0002#N187 (unfortunatly the are in dutch ( moederbord = mobo ))
After a lightning struck the lan and sound disappeared from the mobo : ASUS IPIBL-LB (Benicia)

HP does not have the mobo any longer so i have to find one on the internet .I can buy a replacement on the internet ( probably refurbished ) but the ones with a specification of the bios say : AWARD bios whereas mine was delivered by HP wit a AMI-bios. ( HP say : the delivered to many countrys and the mobo was used in many systems so the bios could differ )

My big question is : given the mobo's are the same model and the content of the computer stays the same (CPU - GPU - memory sticks ... ) and only the bios differ award - ami : WHAT are the RISKS i can encounter ?

BTW : operating systems : dual boot Win8 an Linux mint17.

Thxs in advance gor the responses

It's hard to tell because HP (along with Dell and some others) live in their own world and like to heavily customise some of their hardware and firmware (BIOS in this case).
Assuming they haven't interfered much you will be fine with the same cpu, memory and graphics.
Potentially there could be an issue with the W8 license key since it has been built into the BIOS so complete OS reinstall is on the table.

W8 license should not be a problem as i bought a full install of win 8 pro and i still have the installation disks and the keys. So normally only thing phone microsoft and explain the whole thin in order to have the activation done.
thxs for the answer. I will update this thread later on when i've installed it. Be a little patient with me as the deliveryperiod can take up to 30 days.

Update. Dued to consecutive failures of ram / hd and gpu i decided to dissasemble the pc and only keep the parts that are stil good ( such as the power supply - dvd writer ) and get rid of the rest. luckily i didn't yet ordered the mobo.
Thanks ayway for the answer
