I was wondering about the effect on battery when using multiple displays on an Acer Travelmate P645-9419 ultrabook. I have an Asus VH236H TN CFL 23 inch monitor running 1920 x 1080 over HDMI while the Acer is using a 14 inch 1920 x 1080 IPS LED display. The graphics processor is HD4500 at low power settings and AMD 8750 at high settings. I believe I am experiencing about 1 to 1 1/2 hours of drain extra from running the two displays versus just the Acer's mobile display. Is this actually possible?

Desktop Extension, and I'm not gaming btw, I'm just browsing the web and working in Word/Excel.

I would assume adding the 2 monitors is causing your laptop to switch into desecrate GPU. This will use more power and drain battery faster. You can go into NVIDA control panel to see which GPU is being utilized. If possible, switch it to integrated intel GPU, which used far less power.

Sorry I mean Catalyst Control Center, not Nvidia.
