I have recently wanted to over clock my RAM. It is currently on 1333MHz.

I have the following build:
APU-AMD A10 5800k (stock speeds)
Motherboard- MSI FM2-A75MA-E35
RAM- 1x4GB Corsair CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 4GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory (I have recently ordered another stick which is identical so will be 2x4GB soon).

I have tried two methods to increase the frequency however both have failed. When I boot the PC, CPU-Z always shows the DRAM to be 665.2 +or- 0.2, therefore showing that the RAM is at 1333MHz and not at the higher speed that I set it to in the BIOS. This can be seen below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ifV2PSaK86VERlc1dsZ3...[/img][/img]

I first tried changing the frequency to 1600MHz in the BIOS manually, leaving the voltage at 1.5V. This is shown in the image below (NOTE- I have also tried increasing the voltage to 1.6 while doing this however have had no success):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ifV2PSaK86TzlQS0YtNV...[/img]
I also set the timings to 9-9-9-27 as shown in the image below (NOTE- I have tried the DRAM timing mode setting at linked and unlinked and have tried):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ifV2PSaK86T0JvUUp4V0...[/img]
When I booted the PC up and ran CPU-Z the DRAM Frequency had not changed and looked identical to the first image.

I then tried enabling the XMP file in the BIOS that came with the RAM as shown in the image below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ifV2PSaK86TERPTUxpa2...[/img]
Same again, when I booted the PC up and ran CPU-Z the DRAM Frequency had not changed and looked identical to the first image.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is not working? I believe my BIOS are up to date.
Thanks in advance!

Hello... are you saving the Settings before you exit the BIO's screen?
Basically raising your FSB will increase the Ram speed... if you have the manual MODE enabled.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am pressing an X at the top right hand corner. Then it asks me "Save configuration and reset?", and I press "Yes". It then boots the PC into Windows. When I return to BIOS, the setting I have changed are still changed so I assume they were saved.

Hello... Ram settings and Bios are not as flexiable as CPU overclocks... and are the limiting factors in most Overclock limits... Ram is really fast already at what it does and there are no fans or massive coolers on them.

WEll is the RAM even meant to go that high or did you cheap out and get the Kingston ValueRAM? :-P

So you are suggesting to leave the frequency at 1333MHz? I have a trinity APU and it is very reliant on Ram speeds.

Try to bump it to standard 1600mhz RAM, but don't go any higher.

I have got 1x4GB Corsair CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 4GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory which is advertised to be capable of running at speeds of 1600MHz.

That is my problem. when I try it doesn't work!

Well it should auto-set itself to 1600mhz then... hmmm....

I have done some research on the memory and apparently it is set to 1333MHz out of the box however it has been tested to be stable at 1600MHz; so they advertise it at 1600MHz. I want to turn it to this but I can't.

Hello... reset your CMOS BIOS/Remove battery, Memory and try agian, over and over till it takes... is all you can do now... but sometimes the BIOs are pretty picky theses days on setting the memory higher than it reads off the sticks.
I suspect this happens because all the RMA's people do, cause they are using cheap overrated Ram.

How many times should I repeat before giving up?

Hello... Give it a few positive attitude looks and gestures... then try a couple of curse words...
And if this fails... a few times.
Try and read your PDF/manual on Manually setting the memory freq for your MB?

ALSO you can't be in Performance and Turbo Modes when doing any of this... Standard?

AND... My memory actually runs faster at the BIO's1333 setting due to tighter memory #'s ... So don't let the 1600 become a bug in your Mind... the best thing that can happen is when the Computer boots Day after Day when you hit the power button... and you can Play and Work?.

This did not solve the problem. I think there will be quite a large performance gain because I am using a Trinity APU with integrated graphics.

Yay!!!! I cleared my CMOS again one more time and only changed the frequency and it worked. Thanks a lot Ironsounds!!
