GTX 280 in sli not running games!?!?

I can run some games through steam, like L4D2 and Warthunder, and other games like World of Tanks, but others will NOT RUN.
For example, Crysis 1 just will not run, even though Crysis 2 will. Also, Empire: Total War will not run. Both of the games have dx 10 capabilties, but won't work with GTX 280s.
I am running the 340.43 beta driver, and windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

When I run them they open for a bit ( they show the black loading screen), and then the games crash. I tried running the .exe and launched it... and it still crashed.

I have tried the 337.xx driver and it was worse... would crash almost all games except L4D2, and sometimes would crash the PC with that driver. I verified the game cache as well, but it did not do much so I am now reinstalling Crysis to see if that helps at all.

Well so far I have gotten Empire total war to work, after a re-install... but no luck yet with Crysis, even after a re-install, verification of game cache, different drivers, and switching up physx config.
Any other suggestions?

Hmm.... well one of my 3 1280x1024 monitors just died and Viola! All my games now work with one monitor. Apperently had domething to do with @#$%ing nvidia surround. Thanks all for the suggestions though :)
