Hey guys! So let me tell a little story before I get to the main topic.

So around Sept. last year I built my first gaming computer. It was awesome to say the least, but i experienced what every other computer geek has to experience. Problems. I got a lot of problems with my rig, hardware problems, software problems, a blue screen here or there. Needless to say I guess I'm kind of "grateful" for those problems as they taught me a lot about computers and how to fix issues that I wouldn't have learned how to fix other wise. Fast forward about a year later and my gpu starts acting up. It was my Msi 7870. It was artifacting in League of Legends and I just wanted to upgrade. I couldn't rma my msi card becuase I lost the S/N so I just had to dish out the cash on a new upgrade. The one I bought was a gtx 760 by evga. I loved this card, until THIS ONE starting making a buzzing sound 24/7 which acx coolers are notorious for. Plus I was starting to get issues with World of Warcraft artifact wise. I know every gpu has problems with at least one game and although it doesn't mean the gpu is broken I still wanted it replaced, as the coil whine with that card was getting annoying. ( maybe I just have bad luck with GPU's?) So I get the replacement and I sold it ( well, I am in the process of selling it ) for around 215$. The replacement Evga sent me has never been used by me so its brand new in a sense. To be honest the replacement card Evga sent me is probably perfectly fine and wont give me any problems if I use it. I just want to get a different card as I'm finding out that I really liked Amd's cards more. So for a new card my budget is around $240. I can NOT go above that. I have a few options in mind and was wondering if I could have some help deciding which card to get.

If you have any other suggestions that fit the budget please tell me! One main thing I want is for the card to be known for silence. I hate noise and want to avoid it if possible. One last question before I leave. I know if I get an Amd card I have to uninstall the Nvidia drivers. Can I just uninstall them from the control panel or do I have to go through a grueling process of uninstall every little fingerprint left by Nvidia? Also, I know this is really off topic but does anyone know of a backup software? I have had to clean install win7 about 5 times due to small viruses and such and just want to back up everything so in case anything happens I can just restore everything from an image. As of right now I am almost positive my computer is virus free, I even switched to Fire fox from Chrome because Chrome kept giving my a PUP
( note Chrome gives me this pup on multiple computers as it seems to be linked to my google chrome account weird huh?) and even though it doesn't do anything I just want the peace of mind knowing nothing remotely bad is on my computer. Besides Firefox is more customizable anyway. Sorry for this rant type thread but you'll have to excuse my adhd mind set of getting off track. If you can offer any kind of help I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in Advance!

It should be pretty easy to remove NVIDIA or AMD drivers. Backup windows is also painless by creating restore in a separate partition independent of the current one.

To remove NVIDIA drivers:

To remove AMD drivers:

To backup...

Alright thanks for the answer! Would you be able to answer the question on the drivers though? It would help a lot! TIA!

Alright, thanks for the help! Is there any other viable option for 230 dollars that you would personally recommend? TIA

I sort of just realized something, if I get an amd card ( which I want to ) how can I uninstall the Nvidia drivers on my computer if I don't have an Nvidia card? Would it be safe to boot up the computer with an amd card in it with the Nvidia drivers still installed? Then from there uninstall the Nvidia drivers and install the amd ones? If this isn't an option how else can I proceed to uninstall my Nvidia drivers?

My 7790 is (finally) running stable and there are still the drivers for my old 560Ti on there, so I say don't worry about it.

Finding a stable AMD driver that works for you and your rig is what you should be more concerned with on the driver front.

Okay thanks! So putting in an amd card with nvidia drivers still on the computer wont **** my pc will it? Haha I just wanted to make sure if I get an amd card I'm able to erase the nvidia drivers without an actual nvidia card. I know it sounds confusing but your post helped a lot! Thank you!

Little update. I ended up deleting all the drivers off my computer as far as video drivers go. So, now I have the choice between a
gtx 760 vs r9 280x any thoughts?

A little update:

I finally sold 265 dollars of computer parts ( gpu's), so I finally have some money to spend on a gpu. As of right now AMD is my choice as Nvidia is nice, but prices are a bit high to my liking ( If anybody can find a 770 under 300 without a rebate let me know).

Ideally I want to stay withing the 265 dollar range but I'm not waiting another month for an r9 280x to go down to 250. So as of now Im getting an r9 280x within the 280-300 range. My little problem is, I have no idea what brand to get.

What I look for in a card brand are 2 things

- silence
- and good warranty as well as customer service

I would go with Asus as I have heard their cards are very silent but their whole rma service is terrible. XFX seems to have amazing CS but I'm not to sure about the silence part. If anybody can start throwing brands out their that they own please help me out! Thanks!

Thank you for directing me torwards sapphire! I know this might sound a little dumb, but just to make sure, a corsair 750 watt psu ( HX ) will be enough for a single r9 280x?

Thanks for the reply! I already have an HX 750 though. Anyway, Msi r9 280x is on sale for 300 on Amazon, but I am a bit skeptical as people have been saying that it artifacts and screen jumps. Are these reviews reliable? Should I be worried? I have already rma'd 2 gpus in a year and dont want to rma another.

those artifacts and screen flickering u can experience on a nvdia gpu also its an electronic item and somewhat it depends on your luck there is no guarantee that if u get a gtx 770 or gtx 780 they would give you long life plus my friend is using r9 280x for about 1 year and is completely satisfied with the card.

Yes, but I am talking about the MSI version rather than the r9 280x in general.

MSI sapphire gigabyte xfx etc all are same u find defective cards in any brand and MSi is not at all a bad brand for GPU.

Another Update before I choose a best answer: I bought the r9 280x ( sapphire vapor x ). Although the card is not defective I am returning it as every game I play does not like amd. league of legends flickers on it, skyrim freezes at the start until I shift-tab, war thunder has fps drops to 5 fps, and I really just want to go back to Nvidia, problem is... which brand for the 770? I narrowed it down to three choices

EVGA

MSI

ASUS

evga has awesome CS but I know for a fact ( as I had one before ) they have problems with there ACX cooling as far as clicking goes and coil whine. Silence is key to me. Asus is very quiet, but I have heard horrid stories of there cs. Msi is very quiet also but Im unsure on how there CS performs. EVGA has a 5 star GTX 770 on amazon which is really drawing me in to buy it, but I just cant get past the clicking noise it produces. Any input would be helpful.
