I already have 2 660 ti's and was thinking down the road when I want to get a little more graphics power, should I just upgrade to a nice gtx 700 series or would adding an additional 660 ti be just as good? Primary use is gaming

I'd stay with what you have till the 800's come out and then sell your 660 ti's and buy either the 870 or 880... Adding a 3rd card will add very little if any performance to almost all games... Very few games support 3 way sli.
3 way SLI gets really poor scaling (meaning in third card will not help much performance wise). I would recommend selling the cards and going for 770 4 gb sli or better. Also, I wouldn't do this setup unless you have QHD screen (1440p) or 144hz TN panel.

Though dated, in this review it shows the scaling of three-way SLI with 660 tis (I know you're using 660s, but this demonstrates where the good scaling comes into play) as increasing as details are increased:

If you crank everything to Ultra, this is where you see the performance gains with the third card.

The more you make the cards work, the better the 3-way SLI performs.
