While monitoring my Core i5 2400 CPU through Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility, I observed following things

1. The CPU frequency alternates between 3.3 to 4.1 GHz for each second e.g. for first second it stays at 3.3 GHz and climbs to 4.1 GHz then drops back to 3.3 GHz again

2. According to utility critical values are displayed in red color, In my case the uncore voltage,MCH Voltage and Processor 1 core voltage is displayed in red

My question is why the speed jumps? and why the voltage ratings are showing status critical?
What should I do to correct them?

I have a Gigabyte GAZ68APD3 motherboard and I do 3D animation renderings mostly. The behavior is observed while rendering a 1000 frame animation.

For the reference, below is the list of displayed VS Ideal voltages

Uncore Voltage
Displayed : 0.9250v
Ideal : 1v-1.2v

MCH Voltage
Displayed : 1.5v
Ideal : 0.6v-1.8v

Processor 1 Core voltage
Displayed : 0.0000v
Ideal: 0.7v-1.9v

Thanks

My first thought is that this "smells" like a thermal issue while a single-threaded application is running. One processor in use, it gets Turbo Boosted, the chip gets hot, the boost is rolled back. But the max turbo frequency of that CPU is 3.4 Ghz; are you overclocking it? Are you watching the temps?

Thanx!
Yes, I am overclocking the CPU a bit, the Base clock is raised to 100.5 MHz and multipliers of all 4 cores are raised by 1
and yes I was monitoring the temperatures too.
The "CPU Core temperature" never exceeded 70 degrees(C) and "CPU Core temperature 2" and "CPU Core temperature 3" occasionally hit 80 degrees.
Gigabyte gives this Utility what they call as Easy Tune, they have bunch of presets to choose from, so I chose 3.3 GHz boost as I am running on Intels stock cooler. The motherboard has the overclocking functionality but I did not use that, Is that a reason why this is happening?
Please tell me how to post images here that I can post screenshots of Extreme tuning utility monitoring the system.
PS : All four processor cores are at 100 percent while monitoring.
