I'm going to be building my first PC soon (mostly for gaming) and I was wondering if the Radeon R9 290 is equal to the GTX 770. If its not then which one is better and should I get a non-reference card and if so then which one. Basically I need help choosing a graphics card but I don't want to go over £350, but if it's just a few pounds more then I'll be willing to go over. To give you an idea of what I'll be playing I want to run BF4 on ultra on 1080p at (obviously) 60 FPS on average.

Thanks for the help. :)

Edit: Thanks to everyone that answered. I think know what to go for now. :D

Good value there on the 290. I couldn't shake off my nVidia fanboism to pull the trigger though.

the 290 is absolutely the superior card in terms of gpu power. It also comes with 3gb standard making it an even more attractive option looking forward. There is no reason to go for the 770 here unless you will be taking advantage of nvidia specific features such as G-sync or Physx.

Do get an aftermarket cooler though, AMD dropped the ball there.

Personally, I'd just save another £20 and get a EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked ACX. It's basically on the same level as a R9 290/290X and you won't have to worry about temperature or noise.

Yup an 780 would be the best choice here!

the 290 is far superior to the 770. I believe in the UK the price of the 290 is a nice little bit higher. In the u.s they are almost the same price.
